·        Helicopter Underwater Escape Training – (HUET)

Helicopters are predominantly used in offshore oil industries for the transport of men and materials. One of the major hazards in the helicopter travel is the capsizing of the helicopter in the sea, in the event of any major failure of the helicopter. During such an occasion, the passenger of the helicopter should know to rescue him and the others. This rescue technique is taught in a systematic way in HUET.

A dummy helicopter would be kept afloat on water in a swimming pool. The person to be trained would be kept inside the dummy helicopter and the dummy would be overturned in the water. The moment the trainee gets inside the water, at first he undergoes a panic due to the underwater phobia. Panic is the main reason for most of the fatal accidents. This underwater phobia is relieved from the trainee’s mind by a systematic training. The trainee is taught to come out of the capsized helicopter and to come to the water surface. Even good swimmers find the escape very difficult and get confidence after completing the course. This course is not being conducted by any Indian organization as of now. I have undergone this training at India, which was offered by an Australian training center.
