American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) have merged Safety, Quality and Environmental aspects of shipping and oil industries and brought these three functions under a single umbrella. These three functions are vital parts for a safe and efficient operation of the ships and oil fields.

With the conventional ABS rules and Guidelines, ABS have included the articles of ISO-9000 and ISO –14000 and offer a unique service in the development, operation and maintenance of the infrastructures pertinent to the shipping and oil industries.

I have attended a seminar conducted by ABS at India while the concept was introduced to the industrial organizations. The Maiden effort of ABS is praise worthy and the objective of uniting three functions is to ensure a safe working environment for all of us.
